1. CCTSRC REGULATIONS FOR PhD BY PUBLICATION
1.1 Preamble
1.1 CCTSRC awards the degree of Doctor of Philosophy by Publication to advance original research in Theology, Islamic Studies, Christian Studies, Chaplaincy, Sociology, and related disciplines.
1.2 Full-time candidates: 24–36 months completion period.
2. Admission Requirements
2.1 Master’s degree with thesis, min CGPA 3.5/5.0 or 60%
2.2 Research potential: 1 published article/conference paper OR 5,000-word proposal
2.3 Signed declaration acknowledging non-NUC status & intended use for ministry/research/chaplaincy
3. Programme Structure & 3-Tier Publishing Requirement
3.1 Thesis: 40,000–50,000 words + Four scholarly papers derived from thesis
4. Supervision
4.1 Principal Supervisor: PhD + 3 years post-doctoral experience
4.2 Co-Supervisor may be appointed from partner institution abroad
4.3 Monthly supervisory meetings with written reports
5. Examination Process
5.1 Thesis Submission: 3 bound copies + PDF with Zenodo DOI
5.2 Examiners: 1 Internal CCTSRC PhD holder + 1 External from NUC-accredited or recognized foreign institution
5.3 Viva Voce: 60–90 minutes, virtual allowed
5.4 Outcome: Pass, Pass with Minor/Major Corrections, or Fail
6. Publication & Archiving
6.1 Thesis assigned DOI via Zenodo, deposited with National Library of Nigeria, uploaded to CCTSRC Repository
6.2 Copyright remains with author; CCTSRC has non-exclusive dissemination rights
7. Quality Assurance
7.1 Plagiarism: Turnitin check, >15% similarity requires revision
7.2 Ethics: CCTSRC Research Ethics Board approval for human subjects
7.3 Annual Audit by 1 external scholar
8. Use of Title
8.1 Graduates may use “Dr.” and “PhD, CCTSRC”
8.2 Transcript will state: “Awarded by CCTSRC, a private religious institute in Nigeria. Not accredited by National Universities Commission.”
9. Progression to Professoriate
9.1 PhD does not automatically qualify for Professor at CCTSRC
9.2 Separate Academic Staff Promotion Policy governs professorial appointments
2. CCTSRC POLICY ON APPOINTMENT & PROMOTION TO PROFESSORIAL CADRE
1. Preamble
1.1 Professor is the highest academic distinction at CCTSRC, for research leadership + teaching excellence
2. Professorial Ranks
3. Minimum Eligibility
3.1 Associate Professor: PhD + 6 years post-PhD teaching, 3 years as Senior Lecturer + 6 publications post-PhD + 3 Master’s supervised + curriculum/chaplaincy service
3.2 Full Professor: 3 years as Associate + 9 years post-PhD + 10 publications post-PhD + 1 PhD supervised + research leadership + 2 external assessments
3.3 Professor of Practice: 15 years senior leadership + Master’s minimum + 3 books or 5 manuals + 3 years teaching + 3 national endorsements. Max 20% of professorial staff.
4. Assessment Process
4.1 Application dossier → 4.2 College of Professors Review 5-member panel → 4.3 External Assessment → 4.4 Governing Council final approval, 2/3 vote required
5. Publication Quality Standards
5.1 Recognized: Journals with ISSN + editorial board + double-blind review
5.2 Non-Recognized: Blogs, self-published no ISBN, newsletters = 0 points
5.3 Predatory Journals: Beall’s List = disqualify + disciplinary review
6. Retention of Rank
6.1 Minimum 1 peer-reviewed output every 3 years to retain active status
6.2 Failure for 6 years = reversion to “Professor Emeritus” title
7. Disclaimer for External Use
Staff shall use “Professor of, CCTSRC” in all official correspondence.
