QUESTIONS FOR ONLINE STUDENTS

Family Issue (Online)
A popular online preacher posts a video titled “Three Biblical Reasons Your Children Are Stubborn.” He quotes Proverbs 22:15 (“Folly is bound up in the heart of a child”) and says the only solution is to “beat the devil out of them” using physical discipline. Many parents in your Facebook group are sharing the video. Using what you learned about genre, context, and the whole Bible, write a short rebuttal that helps parents understand how to interpret Proverbs correctly without misusing it to justify harsh treatment.

Church Issue (Online)
Your church’s online service now has a “prophetic chat” where viewers can type their prayer requests and the pastor’s assistant replies with a “word from the Lord.” Last week, someone received a message saying, “The Lord says you have a marine spirit and must pay N50,000 for deliverance.” The person is frightened and sent the money. Using Module 5 (Bridging the Gap) and Module 6 (avoiding private interpretation), how would you report this to the church elders? What questions should they ask about how biblical prophecy is being applied today?

Community Issue (Online)
A community Facebook group is arguing about a land dispute. One party posts a picture of a Bible verse: Deuteronomy 19:14 (“Do not move your neighbour’s boundary stone”). The other party posts a different verse: Proverbs 22:28 (“Do not move an ancient boundary stone”). Both claim God is on their side. As a student of hermeneutics, what would you say to help people understand that simply quoting a verse is not enough? How would you explain the importance of historical context and the whole biblical narrative?
